Hexagon Kitchen Backsplash
This open-plan kitchen in a Smyrna home was renovated with new white shaker cabinets and a quartz countertop, with the backsplash as the final finishing detail. The homeowner selected large hexagon ceramic tile in matte white with white grout to keep the look clean and continuous behind the open upper shelving.
Hexagon tile requires careful layout planning because the pattern must be centered on the most visible face, typically the section above the range. We dry-laid the hex pattern from that center point so the tile terminated in cut halves at both ends rather than mismatched partial tiles. Outlet boxes received precisely cut hex pieces to fit around the face plate perimeter without gaps.
What We Did
- Measured and planned hex layout centered on the range wall.
- Cleaned and primed drywall surface above countertop.
- Set hex tile with white thinset; cut precisely around outlets and cabinet edges.
- Grouted with white unsanded grout, cleaned haze same-day before it hardened.
