What Residential Tile Installation Covers

Residential tile work spans a wide range of surfaces. Bathrooms, kitchens, entryways, covered porches, laundry rooms, and any other room where tile makes sense. For a full renovation, that often means coordinating the sequence so floors go in after the plumbing rough-in is confirmed, walls tile before fixtures are mounted, and transitions to other flooring materials are planned rather than improvised.

We handle all of it under one scope. You do not need separate contractors for the floor and the shower. One crew, one schedule, one point of contact.

The Planning Stage

Layout planning is where residential tile jobs either go well or get complicated. Before any tile is cut, we dry-lay the pattern to confirm how it centers in the room, where the cut tiles land (ideally at less-visible edges, not the entry point of the room), and how transitions to adjacent surfaces will be handled. For a running bond or herringbone pattern, the offset direction and starting line matter a lot for the finished appearance.

We also confirm tile quantities at this stage. Residential tile projects should have a material overage of roughly 10 to 15 percent for cuts and breakage. Patterned tile or diagonal layouts need more. We tell you this clearly before you purchase material.

Substrate and Prep Work

The substrate is the part of the job that disappears under the tile. It is also the part that determines how long the tile lasts. We check floors with a 10-foot straightedge and use self-leveling compound to bring the surface within tolerance for the tile being installed. Large-format tile (anything over 15 inches) requires a flatter surface than standard 12x12 ceramic. For walls, we replace any damaged or soft cement board before tile goes up. Shower and wet areas get waterproofing membrane treatment.

Materials We Work With

Porcelain, glazed ceramic, natural stone (travertine, marble, slate, limestone), encaustic cement tile, glass mosaic, and large-format rectified tile. Each material has its own adhesive requirements, grout type, and handling considerations. Natural stone, for example, requires a white-body thinset to avoid color bleed through the tile, and unsealed marble will absorb grout haze permanently if not cleaned on the same day.

Serving the Area

We do residential tile work across Smyrna, Vinings, Mableton, and Cumberland. The housing stock varies considerably across these areas, from mid-century ranches to newer townhomes and infill construction, and we approach each with the substrate conditions and structural realities of that specific home in mind.
