White Subway Kitchen Backsplash
This kitchen in a Mableton home along the Parkway corridor had white shaker cabinets and a marble quartz countertop already in place. The backsplash was the final element of a phased kitchen renovation. Classic 3x6 white ceramic subway tile in a horizontal running bond was the selection, with cream grout lines to soften the all-white scheme.
Subway tile looks simple but requires careful attention at the range hood surround, where the tile must wrap the hood sides and terminate cleanly at the top edge. We used a bullnose edge tile at all exposed edges rather than a metal trim strip, which keeps the all-ceramic look consistent. The under-cabinet lighting strip is owner-installed; we coordinated the tile height to clear it cleanly.
What We Did
- Established horizontal starting line level with the countertop; planned running bond offset.
- Set tile in standard brick bond; wrapped range hood sides with bullnose edge tile.
- Cut cleanly around outlets and inside cabinet corners.
- Grouted with cream sanded grout; applied sealer after 72-hour cure.
