Beige Stone-Look Floor Tile
This living room floor in a Floyd Road area Mableton home replaced original vinyl sheet flooring with large-format beige stone-look porcelain. The slab underneath had a low spot near the center of the room that was noticeable when the original floor was removed. We filled it with self-leveling compound and allowed full cure time before tiling.
The tile is set in a staggered joint pattern at a 1/3 offset, which is standard for large rectangular formats and avoids the H-pattern that forms at 50% offset. The stagger is set at exactly one-third of the tile length, not eyeballed, so the joints remain consistent across the full run of the floor. Thin, matching grout joints were used to maintain the stone-slab visual.
What We Did
- Removed existing vinyl flooring; assessed slab flatness with 10-foot straightedge.
- Applied self-leveling compound to bring low spot within tolerance.
- Laid out 1/3-offset stagger from the room's visual center.
- Set tile with leveling clips; grouted and sealed after full cure.
