Hallway Large-Format Stone Floor
This entry hallway and open living area in a Cumberland condo near Akers Mill Road received large-format beige stone-look porcelain throughout. The building's HOA required an acoustic underlayment membrane beneath any hard floor covering to meet impact isolation requirements between units. We installed the membrane first, then tiled directly over it using an appropriate uncoupling-compatible thinset.
The tile runs from the entry through to the open living space without a transition strip, which required precise height calculation so the tile surface ended at the right elevation for the entry door threshold. The large-format tiles were set with leveling clips to maintain flatness across the acoustic membrane, which has slight compression characteristics.
What We Did
- Confirmed HOA acoustic requirements; selected compatible membrane and adhesive system.
- Installed acoustic membrane over concrete slab; allowed full cure.
- Set large-format tile over membrane using leveling clips; managed entry threshold height precisely.
- Grouted and sealed; coordinated final cleanup with building management.
